On Wednesday, July 15, he wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) page that creating opportunities for education for both girls and boys is a fundamental way to counteract the consequences of illiteracy in Afghanistan.

Karzai referred to a recent UNICEF report indicating that around four million children in Afghanistan face the risk of malnutrition and stressed that addressing this threat is impossible without investing in public education. According to him, nationwide education for all children, regardless of gender, is a prerequisite for reducing social and health-related harms in the country.

The former president also underscored that cultivating a skilled workforce and raising public awareness can lay the groundwork for managing problems caused by illiteracy and educational backwardness. He described education as the foundation for sustainable development and social stability.

This comes amid the Taliban’s continued restrictions since regaining power, which include banning secondary and higher education for girls, as well as limiting or prohibiting women’s employment and travel. These restrictions have drawn widespread domestic and international criticism and have cast uncertainty over the future of millions of Afghan girls.

Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai urges Taliban to lift girls’ education ban, linking education access to preventing social crises and malnutrition risks.

[17,4,16

post-17619","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-politics","category-secondary-headline
["GET
