The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has announced that 63 percent of Afghanistan\u2019s population consists of individuals under the age of 24, indicating that Afghanistan has one of the youngest demographic structures in the world.<\/p>\n
On Monday, 13 July, the agency emphasized its continued commitment to supporting Afghanistan\u2019s youth in a statement posted on the social media platform X. According to UNFPA, programs such as the \u201cYouth Multipurpose Centre\u201d and the \u201cYouth Health Line\u201d have been designed to provide health information and life skills education to help young people better cope with existing challenges.<\/p>\n
Latika Maskey Pradhan, Deputy Representative of UNFPA in Afghanistan, stressed the need to create a supportive environment for the younger generation. She stated that in order for youth to reach their full potential, an environment must be provided that supports their diverse aspirations and needs.<\/p>\n
Despite this large human potential, Afghanistan faces widespread problems including poverty, unemployment, lack of educational opportunities, and absence of professional training frameworks. Additionally, the severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration on citizens\u2019 work and life, especially targeting young people and women, have led a significant portion of this young workforce either to migrate or become cheap labor in neighboring countries.<\/p>\n
According to the latest United Nations estimates, Afghanistan\u2019s population is estimated at 48.6 million, while the Taliban\u2019s General Directorate of Statistics and Information reports the figure as 37.2 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
