Israeli security officials have announced that their forces will not withdraw from the areas occupied in Lebanon at present, and no orders have been issued regarding such a move. The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper quoted these officials as saying that evacuation is currently not on the agenda.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a U.S. military delegation has arrived in Beirut, and efforts are reportedly underway to pave the way for Israeli forces to leave two ‘pilot areas’. Despite these developments, Israeli officials emphasize that any handover of these areas will be a lengthy process.<\/p>\n
One official claimed that transferring control of the two areas to the Lebanese army “will take weeks,” citing the Lebanese army\u2019s lack of readiness as the reason. According to him, evacuation will not proceed until the army is fully prepared.<\/p>\n
The security official further added that Israeli assessments indicate the Lebanese army is not capable of disbanding Hezbollah. These remarks come amid ongoing political debates in Lebanon over disarmament and the monopoly of weapons, with Hezbollah repeatedly stating it will not surrender its arms.<\/p>\n
The Lebanese government has previously stated that the goal of direct talks with Israel is to end the war and have Israeli forces leave the occupied areas.
