Officials from the Directorate of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in Kandahar province report that following the Taliban’s takeover, major roads in the districts of Shah Wali Kot, Maiwand, and Mayan Nishin have been connected to Kandahar city with an investment exceeding two million dollars. Currently, work has begun on a new project worth 365 million Afghanis (approximately $4.5 million) to link Shorabak district to the provincial capital. <\/p>\n
Officials have also stated that by the end of this year, roads from the districts of Ghorak and Maroof are planned to be connected to Kandahar city. Ezzatullah Rahat, an engineer with the directorate, said that over the past five years, roads in Mayan Nishin and Shah Wali Kot (upper and lower parts) have been reconstructed and linked to the provincial center, with the completion of the Shorabak project prioritized in this year’s agenda. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, residents of several remote areas in Kandahar say that despite these promises, road conditions remain a major challenge in their daily lives. Abdul Qadir, a resident of Spin Boldak district, said the poor roads have caused delays preventing patients from reaching hospitals on time, depriving people of a basic necessity. <\/p>\n
Another resident of the same district emphasized that besides roads, there is a serious need to establish schools and health centers in these areas. They urge the Taliban administration to implement development projects fairly and transparently across all districts. <\/p>\n
Development experts believe that connecting remote areas to urban centers can facilitate trade, the transport of agricultural products, and people’s commuting.
