The U.S. Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday, July 10, that Zahir Qadeer, a former member of Afghanistan’s House of Representatives, has been arrested on charges of conspiring to import heroin and methamphetamine into the United States. According to U.S. officials, he was apprehended in Kenya and transferred to the United States for trial.<\/p>\n
Court documents reveal that since November 2024, Qadeer had been in contact with a confidential source from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regarding the sale of drugs and weapons. The documents further state that in December of the same year, he sold a test shipment of two kilograms of methamphetamine in South Africa.<\/p>\n
The case also notes that Qadeer had prepared to sell hundreds of kilograms of heroin and methamphetamine, along with hundreds of firearms, rocket launchers, grenades, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.<\/p>\n
