Regional media have reported that on the day of the martyr leader’s funeral ceremony in the holy city of Mashhad, a large crowd from various Iranian cities gathered there. According to Al Jazeera, despite last night’s U.S. attacks on several railway lines, including the Tehran\u2013Mashhad route, Iranian officials have stated that these events did not prevent the ceremony from taking place.<\/p>\n
Al Jazeera, publishing images from Mashhad’s streets, wrote that the funeral rites in the martyr leader\u2019s birthplace are being held after a week of mourning ceremonies, processions, and programs across different cities in Iran as well as in Iraq. Earlier, the martyr leader’s body was transferred from Iraq to Mashhad.<\/p>\n
Reports indicate that similar ceremonies took place in Tehran, Qom, Najaf, and Karbala. Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces have announced that more than 2.3 million people participated in the Najaf ceremony alone. It has also been said that millions attended the Tehran funeral procession, which Iranian officials have described as the largest popular gathering in the country\u2019s contemporary history.<\/p>\n
According to Al Jazeera, participants at the Mashhad ceremony carried Iranian flags, images of Ayatollah Khamenei, and placards with revolutionary slogans, demanding accountability for the U.S. attacks.<\/p>\n
