The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock has announced that it is prioritizing the effective enforcement of the newly approved law aimed at preventing the smuggling of food, medicine, and health products. Through an awareness program, the ministry urged traders and investors to produce and supply food and health products in compliance with established standards.<\/p>\n
According to a press release from the ministry’s media office, officials from the Ministries of Agriculture, Finance, and Public Health, as well as representatives from the private sector and companies active in the food, medicine, livestock, and agriculture sectors, attended the meeting. Participants emphasized the legal and standardized supply of products in the country’s markets.<\/p>\n
Mawlavi Sadrazam Osmani, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, stated that the law to prevent the smuggling of food, medicine, and health products was formulated to support traders, investors, and consumers. According to him, the law seeks to regulate the production, import, and distribution processes of these products and prevent harm to the health of citizens.<\/p>\n
He identified smuggling as a harmful factor to the economy and traders’ investments and added that the Ministry of Agriculture is working to facilitate conditions for the private sector. However, in recent years reports have emerged about continued smuggling at some border crossings and markets, with economic actors consistently emphasizing the need for practical and transparent oversight; a challenge that makes the real implementation of this law a significant test for Taliban administrators.<\/p>\n
The program also included the participation of the Deputy Minister of Customs and Revenue from the Ministry of Finance, officials from the Afghanistan Poultry Union, the Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock, the Union of Veterinary and Agricultural Medicine Importers, the Union of Egg Importing Companies, and the Veterinary Union.<\/p>\n
The law to prevent smuggling of food, medicine, and health products consists of 34 articles and has been endorsed by the Amir al-Mu’minin.
