These individuals are aboard vessels that have been halted in and around the Strait of Hormuz. According to a report by Agence France-Presse, citing the IMO, prior to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, a large number of commercial ships and oil tankers were held up in the Strait of Hormuz. At that time, the number of mariners trapped in this critical maritime passage was estimated to be around 20,000. The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s strategic energy transit routes, and any disruption there carries significant economic and security consequences. Following the signing of the memorandum, Iran announced that it had reopened the passage to international vessels under its regulatory management. However, reports suggest that challenges have emerged in the memorandum’s implementation. US President Donald Trump stated today that the agreement has ended and described negotiations with Iran as a “waste of time.” It remains unclear how this position will affect the status of the remaining mariners in the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Approximately 6,000 mariners remain stranded in the Strait of Hormuz as US-Iran tensions rise and the US ends the recent maritime agreement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":17046,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-17047","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-international"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17047","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=17047"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17047\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/17046"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=17047"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=17047"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=17047"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
