According to these sources, 19 insurgents were also killed in the clash.<\/p>\n<p>The operation was launched along the N-25 highway in Balochistan, a region where, according to security officials, individuals linked to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan were engaged in extorting travelers and local residents. The N-25 highway is one of the main transit routes in southwestern Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>It is reported that the operation began following an insurgent attack on a checkpoint in the Ziarat area of Balochistan. In that attack, nine Pakistani police officers were killed, and five others were kidnapped by the assailants.<\/p>\n<p>Balochistan has been one of Pakistan&#8217;s most insecure provinces in recent years, with anti-government armed groups continuing their activities in some areas.
