The demonstration, organized by the Communist Party of Turkey, took place on Sunday, July 5, at K\u0131z\u0131lay Square. According to organizers, several officials of the party were among those detained.<\/p>\n<p>According to Reuters, participants voiced their opposition to the military alliance&#8217;s policies with slogans such as &#8220;Murderous NATO, get out of our country&#8221; and &#8220;There is no way for NATO.&#8221; Riot police used tear gas to disperse the protesters.<\/p>\n<p>Simultaneously, hundreds marched in Istanbul, from Taksim Square to the Dolmabah\u00e7e area. Additionally, two other gatherings organized by leftist groups were held in the Kad\u0131k\u00f6y district. Despite a significant security presence, these assemblies ended without clashes.<\/p>\n<p>Kemal Okuyan, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Turkey, stated that NATO opponents have come together in various parts of the country and emphasized that they would not allow Ankara to remain silent in the face of the alliance.<\/p>\n<p>Turkey is set to host leaders from 32 NATO member countries and several officials from partner states on Tuesday and Wednesday.
