The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense has announced that Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid, the defense minister of the Taliban administration, continued his visit to Badakhshan province by inspecting the 1st Border Battalion of the 15th Border Brigade in the Ishkashim district and assessed the condition of forces stationed along the border with Tajikistan. According to the ministry, he emphasized the need to increase readiness and strengthen measures to protect the borders.<\/p>\n
A statement released on Tuesday, 6 July, said that Mujahid closely evaluated the performance of the forces stationed at this battalion. He began visiting border posts and units in the northeast from Sunday morning, 5 July, and so far has visited the districts of Zebak, Ishkashim, Kuran, and Manjan. These areas are located along the borders with Pakistan, China, and Tajikistan.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Defense also stated that Fasihuddin Fetrat, the chief of staff of the Taliban army, is accompanying him on this trip. Ishkashim is considered one of the important border districts of Badakhshan and has been a focal point for security concerns in recent years.<\/p>\n
This visit comes amid increasing speculation in recent weeks about escalating internal disputes within the Taliban ranks. Talks held by the Taliban delegation with Juma Khan Fattah, a dissatisfied Tajik commander, have so far yielded no concrete results, raising concerns about a possible conflict in Badakhshan.<\/p>\n
Reports have also emerged about the potential disarmament of forces loyal to Juma Khan Fattah. Sources claim that the deployment of fresh troops was intended for this purpose, but Taliban-affiliated media have released an audio file attributed to Fattah, in which he denies the allegations of disarming his forces.<\/p>\n
