Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting head of the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the separation of health issues from political considerations and strengthening the country’s health system during a meeting with Dr. Hanan Balkhi, Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO). According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting included the head of the Gates Foundation, the head of the King Salman Humanitarian Foundation, the Regional Director of UNICEF, as well as the ambassadors of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. The discussions focused on expanding health cooperation and continuing international aid.<\/p>\n
Muttaqi identified establishing advanced cancer diagnosis and treatment centers, equipping hospitals, and enhancing the capacity of medical personnel as key priorities. He stated that humanitarian aid and health services must be distributed fairly to those in need across all parts of the country. Given the current conditions and existing limitations, this requires practical commitment and unobstructed access for health organizations.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Dr. Hanan Balkhi assured ongoing collaboration between the WHO and Afghanistan\u2019s health sector and described polio as a global concern.
