Yaqub Mujahid, the Taliban administration’s Defense Minister, has traveled to Badakhshan province amid escalating tensions between the Taliban authorities and local commander Jumma Khan Fateh. During his visit, Mujahid inspected several districts and border areas.<\/p>\n
The Taliban Defense Ministry announced on Sunday, 14 Saratan, through a statement that Mujahid visited the districts of Zebak, Ishkashim, Kuran wa Munjan, the artillery area of Wakhan, and the Pamir region. The statement noted that he also toured areas bordering China, Tajikistan, and Pakistan.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the Taliban Defense Minister reviewed the activities and preparedness levels of border forces, stressing the importance of maintaining territorial integrity and safeguarding the country’s borders. He pledged to enhance the capabilities of border forces and provide the necessary equipment.<\/p>\n
This trip takes place amid rising tensions in recent weeks between the Taliban administration and Jumma Khan Fateh. Fateh, who was previously removed from his position as chief of the five Darwaz districts and appointed as deputy governor of Zabul province, abandoned his new role and was subsequently dismissed.<\/p>\n
Last month, Fateh held gatherings in Badakhshan, claiming to command approximately 2,500 armed men and more than 10,000 potential forces. Reports also surfaced indicating that despite lacking an official position, he established checkpoints at the entrances of Darwaz, especially in the district of Nusay.<\/p>\n
Following these developments, some media outlets reported that the Taliban administration dispatched a delegation composed of members from Badakhshan to negotiate with Fateh in order to prevent what they described as \u201cirresponsible\u201d actions. However, Fateh denied any conflict with the Taliban authorities and the dispatch of a reconciliation delegation in recent video and audio messages, emphasizing his sacrifices for and loyalty to the regime.<\/p>\n
Simultaneously, unconfirmed reports suggest that forces from other provinces have been deployed to Badakhshan to prevent a potential uprising.
