This cultural center, which has nearly five decades of history, is currently being demolished by the municipality, with plans to allocate part of the new construction to booksellers.

Mohammadullah Zarar, head of Balkh’s Information and Culture Department, stated that the building is not registered as a historic monument and was constructed about 50 to 60 years ago. According to him, the building was in a dilapidated condition and at risk of collapse.

Conversely, some booksellers in Mazar-i-Sharif emphasize preserving the cultural identity and the name Beyhaqi, arguing that the place is not just a commercial market but part of the city’s cultural memory. They demand that after reconstruction, the shops be returned to booksellers, publishers, and those active in the field of publishing works in various Afghan languages.

Other activists associated with this center say that a temporary location should be provided for them until the reconstruction process is complete, as the current situation has harmed their businesses.

Under the Taliban administration’s new plan in Balkh, dozens of old commercial centers around the Rawza Sharif area, which officials say are at risk of demolition, will be torn down and replaced with new buildings featuring modern facilities. However, the lack of clear details on how to support business owners and preserve the cultural identity of these areas has raised concerns among residents and cultural activists.

Balkh authorities plan to rebuild the Beyhaqi Bookstore in Mazar-i-Sharif as a modern commercial center, aiming to balance development with cultural preservation.

[15,17

post-16555","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-culture","category-important-news
["GET
