Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, met with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Taliban administration, to discuss bilateral relations and expressed gratitude for the Taliban’s supportive stance during Iran’s recent conflict with the US and Israel. The Taliban delegation, led by Mullah Baradar and accompanied by Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Foreign Minister, traveled to Tehran to participate in the funeral ceremony of the martyr Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Iranian President’s Office has not provided further details on the content of the meeting.<\/p>\n
According to information released by the Economic Deputy Prime Minister’s Office of the Taliban administration, during the session Mullah Baradar offered condolences to the government and people of Iran on the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei and engaged in discussions on bilateral relations. He highlighted the commonalities between Afghanistan and Iran, emphasizing that both sides have shared interests in various sectors.<\/p>\n
Mullah Baradar also stated that the Taliban administration’s position on the US and Israeli attacks against Iran has been “clear and consistent,” condemning these attacks as illegitimate. Previously, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban administration’s spokesperson, told the Pashto service of Iranian radio that they would support Tehran in the event of a US attack on Iran.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Masoud Pezeshkian underlined the close and friendly relations between the two nations and identified the expansion of cooperation with Afghanistan as a priority for his government.
