Local sources in Badakhshan province report that Abdul Jamil Joya, a former military officer, was shot by unidentified armed individuals near the city of Feyzabad on Tuesday evening. He was subsequently taken to medical facilities but succumbed to his injuries. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and no individual or group has claimed responsibility so far.<\/p>\n
According to sources, the incident occurred at the end of the Qarakamar route, close to the city gate of Feyzabad. Mr. Joya was returning to the city with a close friend who was both the owner and driver of the vehicle when the attacker fired at them with a pistol as they passed by.<\/p>\n
Sources added that the first bullet struck Joya\u2019s left shoulder and after passing through, hit his forehead. He was initially transported to the provincial hospital of Badakhshan and later transferred to the Qunduz regional hospital for further treatment. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he died shortly afterward.<\/p>\n
Relatives of the former military officer stated that a few hours before the incident, he had gone near the Khash District along with several fellow townspeople to welcome the mother of a resident of the Shahr-e Bozorg district who had returned from the Hajj pilgrimage. They emphasized that he had no involvement in any political or military activities during that time and had no personal enmity with anyone or any group.<\/p>\n
Before the fall of the previous regime, Abdul Jamil Joya served as the deputy urban management officer at the National Security Directorate in Badakhshan. Following the regime change, he stepped down from his position and turned to private business, living with his family in Feyzabad city.<\/p>\n
Several days after the incident, the Taliban administration has yet to provide an explanation regarding the circumstances and motives behind the shooting.
