The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense has announced that its air forces carefully selected targets in recent attacks against ISIS-affiliated positions within Pakistani territory to avoid harming civilians.<\/p>\n
Maulvi Sadiqullah Nusrat, deputy spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the air operations exclusively targeted ISIS centers and what were described as “joint centers of evil and corruption,” with the protection of civilian lives being a priority in the planning and execution of these attacks.<\/p>\n
According to him, the strikes were carried out in response to “recent incursions by the Pakistani military regime” in areas including the Saranan region of Pishin district in Balochistan province, as well as in Qamberkhel and Shah Salim Dara Germ Chashma in Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Nusrat claimed that the operations inflicted heavy damage and casualties on these centers but did not provide specific details about the losses.<\/p>\n
Simultaneously, the Taliban administration emphasized that the attacks were conducted to avoid harming civilian residents, a claim that remains independently unverifiable due to the lack of access by independent media to the targeted regions.<\/p>\n
Conversely, the Taliban accuses Pakistan of repeatedly violating Afghan airspace over the past year and targeting civilian areas including schools, mosques, universities, hospitals, and residential homes. One of the deadliest incidents referenced was the attack on a drug rehabilitation hospital in eastern Kabul, which resulted in the deaths of several patients and healthcare workers.<\/p>\n
International organizations, including the United Nations, have previously condemned attacks on civilians as violations of international humanitarian law and emphasized the necessity of protecting civilians in any armed conflict.
