The Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has announced that the Land Usurpation Prevention Commission has registered approximately 3,944,565 jeribs of land in Sar-e Pol province and its districts as pastureland and entered it into the land bank. According to the ministry, 89% of these areas remain in their natural state, while the other 11% have been converted from pastureland.<\/p>\n
In a statement released on Wednesday, June 30, the ministry said that over 3.5 million jeribs of this land still serve as public grazing areas; however, more than 450,000 jeribs have been transformed by residents into agricultural fields, irrigated farms, residential houses, and public facilities or used for other purposes.<\/p>\n
Two days prior, the Taliban administration also reported the registration of about 367,000 jeribs of pastureland in Jawzjan province. Of this, 344,000 jeribs remain natural, while nearly 23,000 jeribs are used for agricultural and residential purposes.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Justice stated that the commission is seeking solutions for lands that have been converted from their natural state. According to Article 13 of the so-called Law on Preventing Land Usurpation and Recovering Usurped Lands, there is a possibility of issuing recovery orders for these areas\u2014a measure that has been implemented in some cities but remains largely unenforced in rural regions.<\/p>\n
The Taliban administration says it has tasked teams in all provinces to identify pasturelands and add them to the land bank. Once registered as public grazing land or government land, private use\u2014even by local residents\u2014without the administration\u2019s permission is prohibited.<\/p>\n
Over the past five years, the Taliban has declared more than 50 million jeribs of land in the country’s cities and villages as government or state land.
