As tensions rise again between the Kochis and local residents in Punjab district of Bamyan province, the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior has announced the dispatch of a high-level delegation to address the dispute.<\/p>\n
According to the ministry’s statement, the delegation comprises the Taliban governor of Bamyan, the police commander, the head of intelligence, and the head of borders, tribes, and ethnicities in the province. The delegation has pledged to conduct a thorough review of the disputed areas in a joint meeting with the conflicting parties and emphasized that the final decision will be based on “the rulings of Islamic Sharia” as well as existing documents and evidence.<\/p>\n
The dispatched delegation has also warned that until a final ruling is issued, none of the parties are permitted to transfer livestock to the contested areas. This decision comes amid growing concerns over the potential escalation of violence in the region.<\/p>\n
The fresh tensions began in the month of Jowz\u0101 (May-June) of this year. Previously, the Taliban’s Ministry of Tribes and Ethnicities claimed the dispute between the two sides had been resolved; however, reports indicate that during prior clashes, in addition to financial losses, at least two people were injured.<\/p>\n
Taliban officials stated that following the initial announcement of settlement, isolated threats between the sides have persisted, and there is a possibility of renewed clashes. Nonetheless, local residents have consistently complained about the lack of a transparent and fair solution to conflicts over grazing lands\u2014a matter that has repeatedly led to violence over the past years.<\/p>\n
Disputes over pastures have a long history in several provinces, including Bamyan and Takhar. Earlier, Khwaja Bahawuddin district in Takhar also witnessed clashes between residents of the Mohajir Qishlaq village and Kochis.
