According to this report, which examines the status of women’s involvement in power structures across 190 countries, Afghanistan is listed alongside Guinea and Myanmar in the category of “exceptional circumstances or unavailable data.”

In this assessment, due to the absence of an active parliament and lack of official information, Afghanistan is excluded from the global ranking of women’s presence in legislative bodies. Meanwhile, the global average of women’s parliamentary participation is reported at 27.4 percent.

The report also shows that Afghanistan’s name is omitted in the section on government cabinet composition and is listed, together with North Korea and Myanmar, as a country for which accessible information on the share of women in the cabinet is unavailable.

This situation arose after the Taliban administration dissolved parliament in 2021 and excluded women from all official political decision-making structures. Previously, based on the constitution, 68 seats out of a total 250 in the House of Representatives were allocated to women, constituting about 27 percent of the parliament.

Globally, the report highlights Rwanda as having the highest share of women in parliament at 63.8 percent, followed by Cuba with 57.2 percent and Nicaragua at 55 percent. Nonetheless, women’s presence in the highest political offices remains limited; only 10.6 percent of countries have a female head of state, and 10.9 percent have a female prime minister.

Women’s rights experts warn that the complete exclusion of Afghan women from official power structures has made the country one of the few worldwide where women hold no formal role in political decision-making processes. They believe that the continuation of this situation further distances Afghanistan from the global trend of women’s political participation and highlights the Taliban administration’s responsibility regarding the basic rights of women.

The UN’s 2026 Women in Politics report lists Afghanistan among countries with no data on women’s political participation after the Taliban dissolved parliament in 2021.

[17,4,3

post-16331","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-politics","category-top-news
["GET
