The Coordination Council of Political and Consular Offices of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has strongly condemned Pakistan’s recent attacks on the provinces of Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar, describing them as a blatant violation of Afghanistan’s national sovereignty and international humanitarian law. The council issued a statement on Tuesday, 9th of Saratan, emphasizing that no political or military justification can legitimize such attacks.<\/p>\n
The statement noted that any military action violating Afghanistan’s territorial integrity or causing civilian casualties contradicts internationally accepted principles. The council added that all states are obligated, based on their legal commitments, to respect the territorial integrity of countries and protect civilians under all circumstances.<\/p>\n
The council welcomed the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan\u2019s (UNAMA) initial documentation of civilian casualties and called for immediate, independent, and transparent investigations into the incidents. It also stressed that those responsible for these attacks must be held fully accountable.<\/p>\n
In another part of the statement, the Taliban administration was labeled as ‘illegitimate,’ asserting that it does not represent the Afghan people. The council criticized the Taliban’s policies and actions for exacerbating the multidimensional crisis in the country, stating that the continuation of this situation has plunged Afghanistan into a widespread humanitarian crisis, a human rights catastrophe, a system of gender apartheid, political deadlock, and increasing security threats.<\/p>\n
Earlier this week on Sunday night, Pakistan announced it targeted locations in these three provinces, claiming to have attacked positions belonging to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and the group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar. Conversely, the Taliban stated that these attacks targeted civilian homes.<\/p>\n
According to the Taliban, these incidents resulted in 36 deaths and 163 injuries. However, UNAMA has confirmed the deaths of 28 civilians and injuries to 49 others, including women and children among the victims.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
