The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Afghanistan has announced that it does not have any official WhatsApp account, warning that some individuals are impersonating the organization to solicit money and personal information from citizens. The agency emphasized that all its services for migrants and displaced persons are completely free of charge.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, 30 June, the organization stated on its official X (formerly Twitter) page that it is aware of individuals using the IOM\u2019s name and logo to promise migration assistance in exchange for money. According to IOM, such actions are blatant exploitation of vulnerable citizens\u2019 situations.<\/p>\n
IOM urged the public not to share any money or personal information through unofficial channels and to immediately contact the organization\u2019s toll-free number if they receive suspicious messages. The agency stressed that all official communications are only issued through verified channels.<\/p>\n
In recent years, increasing attempts to leave Afghanistan due to insecurity, unemployment, and the Taliban\u2019s widespread restrictions have created fertile ground for fraudulent networks.
