The United Nations has expressed concern over civilian casualties following recent Pakistani airstrikes on the provinces of Paktika, Paktia, and Kunar, urging an immediate cessation of hostilities. A UN spokesperson emphasized that civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected at all times.<\/p>\n
According to Mullah Hamdullah Fetrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban administration, these attacks took place on the night of Sunday this week, resulting in the deaths of 36 individuals, including women and children, and injuries to 163 others. He shared these figures on his X (formerly Twitter) account.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the office of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also confirmed that at least 28 civilians, including women and children, were killed and 49 others wounded in the attacks. The differing casualty figures reported by various sources have left the exact scale of the losses unclear.<\/p>\n
Stephane Dujarric, UN spokesperson, stated at a press briefing that the UN Secretary-General has called on all parties to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law. He added that humanitarian partners have reported these attacks have displaced some residents of the targeted areas, with relief agencies currently assessing needs and preparing to provide urgent assistance.<\/p>\n
International reactions continue as well. The International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF) has called on Pakistan to transparently clarify the circumstances, legal basis, and targeting protocols related to these operations.<\/p>\n
