This meeting comes at a time when Afghanistan’s agriculture sector has faced challenges in recent years, including water shortages, reduced investment, and economic restrictions.

UNDP data indicates that the organization has implemented two major programs in alternative livelihoods and rural development. Under the alternative livelihoods project, chemical fertilizers were distributed to two thousand farmers, greenhouses were established, and agricultural product sales markets were created. Additionally, other supportive programs have been carried out to strengthen agricultural production.

The head of UNDP in Afghanistan stated that, under the rural development program, 270 infrastructure projects, including irrigation canals, check dams, and other water facilities across various parts of the country, have been implemented. According to him, these projects have contributed to better water resource management, agricultural development, mechanization, and increased incomes for rural families.

The acting minister of the Taliban’s Ministry of Agriculture expressed gratitude for the cooperation of this international organization and stressed the effective utilization of the implemented projects. He stated that the ministry is committed to collaborating with development agencies to strengthen the agricultural sector. However, some experts believe that the continuation of this cooperation depends on establishing a transparent, accountable, and inclusive framework—a topic that has been continuously discussed in recent years.

The agriculture minister further said that the ministry is working to boost domestic production and reduce imports. He noted that import tariffs on certain products, such as vegetables, fruits, and powdered milk, have been increased to support local production. Experts warn that without complementary support programs, this measure could also affect prices in domestic markets.

The Taliban’s Agriculture Ministry highlights expanded cooperation with UNDP to support Afghanistan’s agriculture, irrigation, and rural development amid ongoing challenges.

[7,17

post-16243","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","category-important-news
["GET
