Iraqi security forces launched a wide-ranging operation in Baghdad and several other provinces starting last evening, resulting in the arrest of about 20 senior officials, members of parliament, and businessmen on corruption charges. The operation included a siege of the Green Zone in central Baghdad.<\/p>\n
Rudaw network reported that early this morning, a joint group consisting of the Counter-Terrorism Service, the Iraqi army, the Integrity Commission, and other security forces carried out a coordinated operation inside the Green Zone and several other areas in the capital and provinces.<\/p>\n
According to the report, the arrests are linked to the case of Adnan al-Jumaili, the former deputy oil minister of Iraq. Previously, Shirwan al-Dubardani, an Iraqi member of parliament, stated that during interrogations, al-Jumaili named 128 officials, including several Kurdish figures.<\/p>\n
Shafaq News, citing a security source, reported that special forces are deployed inside the Green Zone and security measures at the entrances and routes leading to this area have been significantly tightened. According to the source, some sensitive government headquarters are under special surveillance.<\/p>\n
Another security source added that counter-terrorism forces have established several checkpoints inside the Green Zone, and individuals are subjected to thorough searches upon exit. Only those holding exam entry cards are exempt from this restriction.<\/p>\n
Sources said the scope of the arrests was not limited to the Green Zone but also included areas such as al-Shaab in northern Baghdad, as well as al-Yarmouk, Zayouna, and al-Mansour.
