He also stated that Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. envoy, warned that if American forces withdrew, Afghanistan might face the fate of Syria.

Delawar said in a meeting in Kabul on Saturday that Khalilzad argued figures such as General Abdul Rashid Dostum and Atta Mohammad Noor were under U.S. control, and with the withdrawal of American troops, the situation would spiral out of control. According to him, Khalilzad also warned of the possibility of Afghanistan moving towards fragmentation.

The Taliban negotiator emphasized that after the U.S. troop withdrawal, the Taliban took control of the situation and have abided by their commitments under the Doha Agreement.

Delawar also denied the existence of any hidden annexes in the Doha Agreement. This is while Zalmay Khalilzad had earlier confirmed that the agreement contained annexes but did not provide details about their content—a subject that has repeatedly drawn criticism due to a lack of transparency in the process.

According to Delawar, the discussed annexes only included arrangements for the immunity of U.S. forces while moving between provinces to prevent attacks. He claimed that after signing the Doha Agreement, no attacks were carried out by the Taliban against U.S. forces, and no American soldiers were killed.

The Doha Agreement was signed in 2020 between the U.S. and the Taliban in Qatar and paved the way for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan; its consequences, including the Taliban’s return to power, remain subjects of ongoing debate and assessment.

Taliban negotiator reveals US proposed keeping a military base in Afghanistan during Doha talks and discusses warnings from former envoy Khalilzad.

[17,4

post-16037","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-politics
["GET
