Local sources in Badakhshan report that amidst escalating tensions between the Taliban administration and Jumah Khan Fateh, a dissatisfied commander within the group, Mullah Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban’s Defense Minister, traveled to the province on Thursday morning, June 25. According to sources, he arrived in Jurm district with more than 40 military vehicles.<\/p>\n
This visit comes after a special Taliban commission\u2019s efforts to persuade Jumah Khan Fateh have failed. Sources add that Fateh was previously given a 15-day deadline to announce his final decision.<\/p>\n
Although Taliban officials have officially stated that the purpose of this trip is to review security conditions along the Wakhan, Ishkashim, and Shighnan border areas, local sources suspect the main objective is to assess military capacities and preparedness for a possible confrontation with Jumah Khan Fateh\u2014a development that highlights internal divisions and security challenges within the Taliban\u2019s governance structure.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, on the evening of the previous day, Qari Fasihuddin Furat, the Taliban Army Chief of Staff, flew by helicopter to Nusay district and presented Jumah Khan Fateh with two proposals: either the “Police Command” or the “Intelligence Directorate” in Badakhshan.<\/p>\n
According to sources, Fateh rejected these proposals and warned that he would defend himself in the event of any military campaign aimed at removing him.
