The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), on the occasion of June 24, International Day of Women in Diplomacy, stated that the meaningful participation of Afghan women in public life and political decision-making processes is a fundamental necessity for the country\u2019s future. The agency emphasized that without the presence and voice of women, achieving sustainable peace and inclusive development in Afghanistan is impossible.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, UNAMA said in a statement that women must have equal opportunities for education, leadership, and participation in all spheres of society, including diplomacy and public service. According to the agency, ensuring this participation is not a choice but a vital requirement for shaping a bright future in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
The statement noted that women diplomats are not only participants in international relations but also play an important role as leaders, peace mediators, and advocates for equality, strengthening global cooperation and advancing inclusive decision-making. UNAMA added that the knowledge and experience of women can help build a more just and stable society.<\/p>\n
The International Day of Women in Diplomacy is celebrated annually to highlight the role of women in peacebuilding and international decision-making. However, since the Taliban\u2019s return to power in August 2021, extensive restrictions have been imposed on women’s education, work, and social presence in Afghanistan, effectively excluding them from many public spheres.<\/p>\n
Previously, women actively participated in the former government\u2019s structures at the cabinet level, provincial offices, embassies, and the House of Representatives.
