This group is intended to serve as a parliamentary framework to keep the issue of Afghanistan alive on Australia’s political agenda.

Julian Hill, co-chair of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the people of Afghanistan, praised the role of Afghan citizens in expanding relations between the two countries and stated that supporting human rights and maintaining connection with the people of Afghanistan are the group’s main priorities. He also commended the diplomatic efforts of the Afghan Embassy and the work of the Afghan community residing in Australia.

Matt Thistlethwaite, Australia’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, emphasized the country’s continued support for the people of Afghanistan, stating that the current situation in Afghanistan should not become permanent. He underscored the necessity of supporting the rights of women and girls and holding the Taliban administration accountable for human rights violations; a matter that in recent years has been marked by significant restrictions on women’s education, employment, and social participation within Afghanistan.

Monique Ryan, the other co-chair of the group, highlighted the longstanding relations between the people of Afghanistan and Australia and expressed appreciation for the role of the Afghan-Australian community in raising awareness about developments in Afghanistan.

The Afghan Ambassador to Australia described the revival of this group as a sign of ongoing political and moral support for the Afghan people and stressed that the Afghan population needs “solidarity and support,” not recognition of the Taliban administration. He warned that international aid should not lead to legitimizing the Taliban’s restrictive policies.

During the ceremony, participants once again emphasized the urgent need for practical support of women’s and girls’ rights, the preservation of human rights achievements, and continued global attention to Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis.

Australia has re-established its Parliamentary Friendship Group with Afghanistan to strengthen political support and uphold human rights amid ongoing challenges.

[4

post-15898","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics
["GET
