According to the UN, in many areas of the country, replacing female doctors has become almost impossible, severely impairing women’s access to vital health services.

Olga Cherfko, an official from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), after visiting Bamyan province, said that whenever a female doctor leaves her position, finding a replacement is extremely difficult. She emphasized that this shortage has limited the provision of critical services such as maternal and neonatal care, malnutrition treatment, and other essential health services for women and girls.

The UN official identified the Taliban’s restrictions on girls’ education as a primary factor exacerbating this crisis. She said depriving girls of continuing their education blocks their path to specialized fields, including medicine, and in the long term, will leave the country’s health system facing a significant shortage of female specialists. The consequences of this will directly impact women’s health.

Cherfko also noted that during her meetings with families in Bamyan, many residents expressed concern about the future of their daughters, fearing that the educational ban will eliminate their future job and social opportunities.

In another part of its report, the United Nations highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, stating that drought, water shortages, poverty, and food insecurity have affected millions of lives. According to the report, by 2026, around 22 million people will need humanitarian assistance in the country, yet only a limited portion of the required funding has been secured.

The UN also warned that approximately 3.7 million children in Afghanistan suffer from acute malnutrition, and due to a lack of medical facilities and low family awareness, many cases go undetected and untreated in time. This situation, combined with the shortage of female doctors, puts additional pressure on the country’s public health system.

The UN warns of a critical shortage of female doctors in Afghanistan due to Taliban education restrictions, worsening the health crisis for women and children.

[9,17

post-15876","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-health","category-important-news
["GET
