Qatar and Pakistan announced that the first round of high-level negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America in Burgenshtock, Switzerland, has concluded, with both parties agreeing on a 60-day roadmap to reach a final agreement. According to mediators, the meeting was held within the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.<\/p>\n
The joint statement said the talks were held in a \u201cpositive and constructive\u201d atmosphere, achieving progress including the establishment of a mechanism to initiate further technical negotiations. Based on this understanding, a high-level committee will be formed to provide political oversight of the mediation process.<\/p>\n
Senior negotiators are scheduled to regularly report to this committee, while separate working groups will address nuclear issues, sanctions, as well as monitoring and dispute resolution. The purpose of these groups is to ensure effective implementation of the memorandum and to handle other related matters.<\/p>\n
The statement emphasized that the high-level committee agreed on a roadmap to reach a final agreement within 60 days and that preparations have been made to immediately begin technical negotiations. A communication hotline between the parties has also been established to prevent incidents and misunderstandings during this timeframe and to guarantee the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the parties agreed to establish, with the facilitation of mediators, a unit to reduce tensions that will also cover Lebanon, monitoring adherence to the cessation of military operations in Lebanon per the memorandum. The technical negotiations are set to continue until the end of the week at the Burgenshtock resort.<\/p>\n
The governments of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan expressed appreciation at the end of the statement for the commitment of the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran to diplomacy and peaceful resolution of the conflict.
