This decision is based on a verbal order from the Taliban leader and, according to local officials, is considered mandatory to enforce.

The Taliban governor’s media office in Panjshir announced in a statement that the use of personal smartphones is prohibited in all government offices in the province. Mohammad Agha Hakim, the Taliban governor of Panjshir, instructed civilian and military officials not to allow any employees to use smartphones, warning that those who violate the order will face legal consequences.

According to a document obtained by the media, individuals who disobey this directive will be referred to military courts. Sources also confirmed that last Wednesday (June 17) was the final deadline to surrender these devices.

The ban is not limited to the workplace; Taliban civilian staff and military personnel are also forbidden from using smartphones even at home. Images circulated on social media show some Taliban forces smashing smartphones, an act that has sparked widespread reactions.

Although the Taliban leader issued the order fully, multiple sources reveal that its enforcement is uneven. At least four sources have confirmed that the restriction mainly targets ordinary employees and lower-ranking military forces, while senior Taliban officials continue to use smartphones.

According to sources, this directive has been implemented in more than 20 provinces, including Kandahar, Maidan Wardak, Panjshir, Bamyan, Herat, Sar-e Pol, Ghor, and Kabul. Observers say such restrictions not only limit employees’ access to communication and information tools but also raise concerns about transparency and accountability within Taliban-controlled administrations.

The Taliban bans smartphone use for regular staff in Panjshir, yet allows officials access, raising transparency concerns across multiple provinces.

[17,4,16

post-15606","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-politics","category-secondary-headline
["GET
