Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced during a meeting with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in France, that he has proposed to Israel to delegate responsibility for addressing Hezbollah to Syria. At the same time, he criticized the way Israel has managed its operations in Lebanon, saying the process has taken too long.<\/p>\n
Trump emphasized that he told Israel that the attack on Beirut was not to his liking and stressed, “There is no need to raze a residential building every time you are looking for one person.” He added that he suggested Syria take on the Hezbollah issue because, in his view, “they can handle it better.” The US president also stated, “Without me, Israel would not exist,” a remark that has drawn widespread reaction.<\/p>\n
In another part of the meeting, Trump spoke about Iran, saying he has not sought a “regime change” and considered this approach ineffective. He described the current leadership in Iran as “rational” and called cooperation with the country’s representatives “enjoyable.” However, he warned that if Iran proceeds toward producing or acquiring nuclear weapons, it would face “unimaginable consequences.”<\/p>\n
This comes while Iranian officials have previously stated that they are not pursuing nuclear weapons. Trump claimed that Iran will neither produce nor purchase nuclear arms and added that the agreement with Tehran has entered a “second phase,” which he described as simpler. He also alleged that US forces have destroyed a site in Iran that, according to him, contained nuclear dust.<\/p>\n
The US president further announced a shift in Washington’s focus from West Asia toward the war in Ukraine, saying the country is suffering heavy human losses.
