The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that 3.7 million children in Afghanistan are suffering from acute malnutrition, and urgent increases in humanitarian aid are essential to prevent deadly consequences. On Monday, June 15, OCHA warned that without enhanced funding and expansion of nutrition programs, the condition of vulnerable children will significantly deteriorate.<\/p>\n
According to OCHA’s report, millions of children across the country are at risk of acute malnutrition, with hundreds of thousands facing severe and life-threatening forms of the condition. This situation raises the risk of human casualties and irreversible health consequences.<\/p>\n
The report further stated that the level of humanitarian needs in Afghanistan remains critically high, and support systems lack the capacity to fully respond to the crisis. OCHA emphasized that preventing the crisis from worsening requires immediate and coordinated action from the international community.<\/p>\n
Additionally, about 1.2 million pregnant and breastfeeding women will be affected by this crisis in 2026, intensifying concerns over maternal and child health.
