The Director General of Khorramshahr Port and Maritime Affairs in Iran announced the start of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exports to Afghanistan and Pakistan through multimodal transportation. According to him, the first shipment transfer operation was successfully completed as part of efforts to expand export routes.<\/p>\n
Mizan News Agency reported on Saturday, June 13, that Ali Askari stated this process could strengthen Khorramshahr Port’s position in Iran’s logistics network. Multimodal transportation involves the simultaneous use of multiple modes of transport such as ship, rail, and truck under a single contract, typically used to reduce costs and expedite cargo transfer.<\/p>\n
This development comes as the Taliban administration has sought to increase imports from Iran following the closure of Pakistan’s borders. This approach highlights Afghanistan’s increased dependence on limited trade routes, raising concerns among economic actors due to the absence of a clear economic strategy from the Taliban administration.<\/p>\n
According to available statistics, the trade volume between Afghanistan and Iran is estimated at around four billion dollars.
