According to the network, multiple reports and testimonies indicate that Taliban forces have detained women and held them in custody for several days.

In a statement released by the network led by Tarnam Saeed, it was noted that in addition to repeated detentions, reports of mistreatment and violations of the detainees’ human dignity have emerged. Some families have alleged that large sums of money were demanded from them in exchange for the release of their daughters and female relatives.

According to these claims, the amounts demanded started from around 25,000 Afghanis and, in some cases, reached up to 50,000 Afghanis. The Afghan Women’s Political Participation Network emphasized that if these allegations are confirmed, such actions could constitute arbitrary detention, extortion, and even organized hostage-taking—practices which clearly violate basic human rights principles.

The statement further highlighted that in the context of widespread poverty and economic crisis, the continuation of these practices places a heavy burden on local families and undermines the psychological and social security of the community. The network described the recent arrests as serious violations of the rights of women and Afghan citizens, calling for an immediate halt to arbitrary detentions and transparent accountability from those responsible.

The Afghan Women’s Political Participation Network has also urged the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and the global community to take effective and practical measures to prevent ongoing violations of women’s rights in Afghanistan. The network additionally called on the public not to remain silent in the face of what it described as “injustice” and to stand up for human dignity and the rights of women.

Following the arrests of women and the suppression of protests in Herat, new restrictions have been imposed on girls’ schools in the province. Sources report that the Taliban’s religious police have warned administrators of certain girls’ schools that if female students attend without wearing long hijabs, face coverings, and socks, the schools would be shut down.

According to sources, some tall students have also been instructed not to attend school without a prayer chador. Amid these developments, the Taliban-appointed governor of Herat has traveled to Kabul following the protests and is expected to hold talks with the administration’s officials.

Afghan Women’s Political Participation Network condemns recent detentions and extortion of women in Herat, urging international intervention and transparency.

[17,4,16

post-15134","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-politics","category-secondary-headline
["GET
