A group of religious scholars, tribal elders, and community leaders in the Jebrael district of Herat province held a meeting to express their support for the Taliban administration and the enforcement of Islamic hijab. Participants described the recent protests by some young people as “emotional” and stressed that such incidents should not be repeated.<\/p>\n
According to them, any grievances or issues should be raised through local elders and Taliban officials. This comes amid increasing restrictions on civil protests in recent months, with critics arguing that the space for expressing dissent has been severely limited in the country.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, several religious scholars delivered speeches reiterating support for the so-called “Islamic Emirate” system and assured that protests similar to the recent ones would not recur. They also stated that enforcing Islamic hijab is a necessity for the current society and urged the public not to express dissatisfaction with its implementation.<\/p>\n
Some participants also called on the authorities responsible for promoting virtue and preventing vice to deal with people gently and through informed methods, playing a greater role in guidance and raising awareness.<\/p>\n
At the end of the gathering, an eight-point resolution was read out, condemning the recent youth protests as inappropriate and emphasizing that such matters should be resolved through consultation and dialogue with elders and Taliban officials.
