This decrease coincides with the closure of Afghanistan’s transit route, directly impacting Islamabad’s exports and imports.

According to Pakistani media reports, Pakistan’s exports to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan dropped by 8.62% from July to April, reaching $147.992 million compared to $161.943 million during the same period last year.

During the same period, Pakistan’s imports from these countries experienced a much sharper decline, falling by 87.96% from $173.383 million to $20.882 million. The majority of these imports previously came from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

Reports emphasize that this trade downturn mainly occurred after the closure of the land transit route through Afghanistan, which had played a crucial role in facilitating trade between Pakistan and Central Asia. Afghanistan’s geographical position as a regional crossroads made it one of the shortest and most cost-effective transit corridors between South Asia and Central Asia.

Among these countries, Uzbekistan was the sole exception, registering an increase in exports from Pakistan. Pakistani exports to Uzbekistan grew by 38.27%, reaching $64.139 million, although imports from Uzbekistan declined sharply by 84.83% to $10.756 million.

Meanwhile, exports to Kazakhstan dropped by 17.57% to $70.373 million, and exports to Tajikistan fell by 63.22% to $9.332 million. Trade with Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan also followed a downward trend.

Previously, Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce reported that the country had suffered approximately $850 million in economic losses over the past seven months due to the closure of border crossings with Afghanistan. The continued closure of these routes persists despite multiple economic experts highlighting the critical importance of stability and professional management of Afghanistan’s transit corridors — an issue for which the Taliban administration has yet to provide a clear explanation regarding the outlook for a sustainable reopening.

Pakistan’s trade with Central Asia has sharply declined due to Afghanistan’s transit route closure, causing significant export and import losses.

[7,17

post-15112","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","category-important-news
["GET
