On Thursday, Anwar Al Anuni wrote on the EX network that the European Union stands with the women of Afghanistan and finds the recent events in Herat concerning. He emphasized that respecting citizens’ fundamental rights is part of the international obligations that must be upheld.<\/p>\n
At the same time, local sources in Herat stated that the Taliban-appointed governor held a meeting with district representatives and tribal elders, asking for their cooperation to prevent possible gatherings on Friday. According to these sources, the meeting took place yesterday at the governor’s office, and participants were requested to report any planned assemblies to relevant authorities.<\/p>\n
Sources further added that Taliban forces have set up checkpoints in various parts of the city, including the Jebrail area, monitoring residents’ movements. They reported that on some occasions, citizens’ mobile phones were inspected and controlled, raising concerns about privacy violations and restrictions on civil liberties.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) expressed concern over recent events in Herat, noting that a teenager was killed by gunfire and several others were injured.
