The Attorney General of Taybad announced that 408 Afghan prisoners and convicts were transferred to Afghanistan on Wednesday through the official Dogharoon crossing. These individuals, gathered from eight provinces across Iran, were handed over to Taliban authorities at the zero point border to serve the remainder of their sentences in Afghan prisons.<\/p>\n
Hojjat Sedighi stated that the majority of these prisoners\u2019 cases were related to drug offenses. According to him, this transfer was carried out within the framework of judicial agreements between Tehran and Kabul, with the presence of judicial officials from both sides and the charg\u00e9 d’affaires of the Afghan embassy in Iran.<\/p>\n
Sedighi described this as the eleventh phase of prisoner transfers between the two countries and added that the process was implemented with coordination among the responsible institutions. Simultaneously, three Iranian prisoners held in Afghan prisons were also returned to Iran under the same program.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Deputy for Human Rights and International Affairs at Iran\u2019s Ministry of Justice announced that files for 2,206 Afghan prisoners are under review for transfer. Askar Jalali said that among them, 1,206 have been deemed eligible and are expected to be transferred in the coming days through the Dogharoon border in Razavi Khorasan and the Milak border in Sistan and Baluchestan.<\/p>\n
Iranian officials have described this process as part of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The representative of Torbat Jam, Taybad, Bakharz, and Salehabad in the Iranian Parliament also emphasized the historical and cultural ties between the two nations, noting that such cooperation strengthens relations between Tehran and Kabul.<\/p>\n
