According to the center, men and women protesters chanted slogans such as “Education, Work, Freedom,” calling for an end to arbitrary detentions, respect for women’s fundamental rights, and the protection of basic freedoms for all citizens. However, Taliban fighters used violence to disperse the peaceful gathering. Reports indicate that at least two people were killed and 30 others injured as a result of direct gunfire at the protesters.<\/p>\n
The Afghanistan Human Rights Center categorized the shooting of unarmed individuals as a deliberate violation of the right to life, personal security, and the right to peaceful assembly. The statement noted that the killings and injuries of protesters, the detention of citizens\u2014especially women\u2014the beatings, and the widespread atmosphere of fear contradict international human rights standards and the principles of the rule of law. The center added that the repetition of such actions reflects the absence of accountability mechanisms within the Taliban administration.<\/p>\n
The Afghanistan Human Rights Center has called for investigations and judicial prosecution of those who ordered and carried out these actions based on international human rights criteria. It also urged the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and governments involved in Afghanistan to take practical measures to protect citizens’ rights, particularly those of women and girls.
