The free exhibition will take place from June 12 to 23 at Southwark Cathedral and aims to highlight the experiences of Afghan women.<\/p>\n<p>The organization posted on its official X page on Tuesday, June 9, stating that the exhibition will centre on stories of struggle, resistance, and resilience of Afghan women who, according to IOM, have faced severe restrictions on their rights and freedoms in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>IOM stressed that Afghan women and girls have borne the heaviest consequences of political changes since 2021. Following the Taliban&#8217;s return to power, education, schooling, and employment for women have been banned in many areas, with social restrictions and gender discrimination significantly increasing\u2014a situation that has also drawn widespread global reactions.<\/p>\n<p>According to published information, the exhibition will offer an intimate look into the realities of displacement and the lives of Afghan women through photography, personal narratives, and visual arts; showcasing women still living under restrictions within the country as well as those who have rebuilt their lives in the UK after migrating.<\/p>\n<p>The event will feature works by Shamseen Hasani, an Afghan graffiti artist, a portrait collection by Claudia Janke of women who arrived in the UK after perilous escapes, along with pieces by several other artists and photographers.
