A recent Reuters\/Ipsos poll reveals that US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to 35 percent, marking the lowest point during both of his presidential terms. Rising concerns over inflation and the potential increase in gasoline prices are cited as key factors driving this decline.<\/p>\n
According to the poll, completed yesterday, Trump’s approval rating is just one percentage point above the lowest figure recorded in his current term (34 percent in April) and close to the lowest level during his first term in December 2017 (33 percent).<\/p>\n
In another part of the survey, 59 percent of respondents expect gasoline prices to rise within the next year. Additionally, only 22 percent approve of Trump’s handling of family living costs, while 70 percent disapprove\u2014a level of dissatisfaction that surpasses even the opposition to Joe Biden at the end of his presidency.<\/p>\n
Biden faced long-term inflation in his final year in office, which contributed to losses for the Democratic Party in the 2024 elections and helped pave the way for Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris. Trump had campaigned on a promise to control inflation, but the recent increase in fuel prices driven by developments in the Strait of Hormuz has cast a shadow over the US political landscape.<\/p>\n
The same poll shows that the Republicans’ economic trust advantage seen last year has nearly disappeared, narrowing to a single percentage point, with 36 percent trusting Republicans and 37 percent trusting Democrats.
