This change has attracted widespread attention from local residents and neighboring provinces.

Several residents of Helmand and nearby areas say that due to reduced rainfall and water levels in recent years, such scenes were rarely seen. According to them, the sound of rushing water in the Helmand River bed is new for many people and has become a local attraction.

The Kajaki Dam, built on the Helmand River, is one of the important water resource management facilities in the southern part of the country and regulates the amount of water flowing downstream, including towards Iran. The increase in the river’s water level can impact agriculture in Helmand and also affect the environmental conditions of downstream regions.

In past years, the reduction of Helmand River’s water during drought periods had also affected farming and livestock in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan Province, leading residents there to express concerns about their water rights. According to the Helmand River water sharing treaty signed in 1972 between the then governments of Afghanistan and Iran, Iran’s annual water share from the river is set at 817 million cubic meters.

Water flow from Kajaki Dam in Helmand has surged after years of drought, revitalizing the Helmand River and impacting agriculture and environment downstream including Iran.

[7

post-14752","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business
["GET
