The Kurdistan Human Rights Network has reported that a local Taliban official in Sar-e Pol province shot and killed a woman and her teenage daughter after they resisted an attempt at forced marriage. The incident occurred on May 8 in the Ghaldori village of Kohistanat district.<\/p>\n
According to the report, Chemen Hosseinzadeh, a Kurdish woman from Boukan, Iran, together with her 15-year-old daughter Sara Yousefi, were the targets of the shooting. It is said that Mufti Mohammadullah, head of the Taliban\u2019s Hajj and Endowments Department in Kohistanat district, sought to marry the teenage girl, and when met with the mother\u2019s opposition, opened fire on both.<\/p>\n
Chemen Hosseinzadeh married an Afghan citizen about two decades ago and had been living in Kohistanat district since then. She was known among local residents as \u201cBibi Chemen Gol\u201d and provided midwifery services to families in the area.<\/p>\n
A source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network that on the day of the incident, the Taliban official came to their home and attempted to forcibly take Sara Yousefi with him. The mother\u2019s resistance to this attempt led to direct shooting and the death of both.<\/p>\n
The report further states that Taliban forces arrested the accused individual after the incident; however, no information has yet been released regarding the judicial process, transparency of the investigation, or the status of the case. The lack of clear information about the case follow-up has raised concerns about impunity for perpetrators of violence.<\/p>\n
Chemen Hosseinzadeh\u2019s family in Boukan, Iran, learned of the incident on May 31, and two days later, on June 2, they held a symbolic funeral ceremony for the mother and daughter.<\/p>\n
