The Secretariat of the High Commission for Refugee Affairs announced that 488 migrant families, comprising 2,622 individuals, have returned to Afghanistan from neighboring countries within the past 24 hours. According to the commission, housing plots have been distributed to 1,024 returning families across four provinces.<\/p>\n
Saturday\u2019s report (June 5) states that these families entered and were registered in Afghanistan through the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala, and Pul-e-Abresham border crossings. Among them, 460 families arrived via Torkham, 22 families from Spin Boldak, three families from Pul-e-Abresham in Nimroz, and three more families from Islam Qala in Herat.<\/p>\n
The Transport and Transfer Committee reported that during the same period, 579 families, totaling 3,156 individuals, were relocated to various provinces, with over 2.5 million Afghanis spent on their transportation costs. Additionally, the Financial Management Committee provided cash assistance exceeding 4.9 million Afghanis to 602 returning families.<\/p>\n
The commission also provided health, food, and telecommunications services to the returnees, distributing 483 SIM cards among them.<\/p>\n
Regarding permanent housing, residential plots have been allocated to 466 families in Nangarhar, 17 families in Ghazni, 202 families in Farah, and 339 families in Helmand. The Secretariat added that the total number of distributed residential plots has now reached 39,515.<\/p>\n
While reports indicate an increase in the rate of migrant returns, many returnees face serious challenges such as employment shortages, lack of stable shelter, and limited access to basic services.
