They argue that clothing choices are a personal matter and should not be criminalized.

On Saturday, June 5, these women told 8am newspaper that imprisoning women because of their attire is unacceptable and will lead to the gradual exclusion of women from social spheres. They warned that such an approach will decrease women’s presence in society even more and push them toward isolation.

According to local sources, this directive has been communicated to all districts of Herat city. Additionally, during Friday prayers yesterday, some mullahs in several mosques shared the details of this decision with the public. Based on the announcement, families have been warned to prevent women from leaving home without adhering to the specified dress code; otherwise, women will face arrest and imprisonment.

Some women residing in Herat said that with rising temperatures, wearing chador namaz (prayer robes) and burqas for long hours is difficult and distressing. They emphasized that these restrictions not only disrupt daily life but also increase psychological pressure.

This move comes after the Taliban previously banned women without burqas from entering government offices in Herat—a decision that had sparked critical public reactions at the time. Women’s rights activists have consistently stressed that continuing such policies violates fundamental women’s rights and undermines their equal participation in society.

Taliban warns women in Herat of arrest for not following dress code, raising concerns over personal freedoms and women’s rights in Afghanistan.

[17,16,8

post-14511","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-secondary-headline","category-social-affairs
["GET
