Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock in Laghman have announced that this solar year, watermelon has been cultivated on 290 hectares of agricultural land in the province, with an estimated yield of approximately 8,265 tons.<\/p>\n
Sardar Ziyar, the spokesperson for the department, stated that the increase in production compared to previous years is the result of using improved seeds, timely prevention of plant diseases, and the provision of technical advice by professional staff from the Department of Agriculture to the farmers.<\/p>\n
According to him, alongside the rise in watermelon production, hundreds of young people have been directly employed in the horticulture sector, while hundreds more earn income indirectly through the trade, transportation, and sale of this product in the markets.<\/p>\n
Officials say that Laghman’s watermelons, in addition to being sold in the province’s internal markets, also have considerable buyers in Kabul and several other provinces, where they are appreciated for their quality and taste.<\/p>\n
