The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that during a one-week campaign on “Risk Communication and Community Engagement” in Badakhshan province, over 37,000 men and women were educated about infectious diseases and their prevention methods.<\/p>\n
The agency stated on its X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday, June 2, that this program was implemented with financial support from the Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations of the European Union (ECHO) and in collaboration with partners in Yaftal-e-Bala district and nine other districts of Badakhshan. The campaign focused on strengthening community-based efforts to prevent diseases.<\/p>\n
According to published information, 28 trained social mobilizers, both men and women, held awareness sessions in villages, mosques, homes, schools, and other social venues. During these sessions, participants were informed about the symptoms, prevention methods, and the importance of timely treatment of infectious diseases and vaccine-preventable illnesses.<\/p>\n
The diseases covered included acute watery diarrhea, acute respiratory infections, measles, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, malaria, and dengue fever.<\/p>\n
Edwin Senyza, WHO\u2019s representative in Afghanistan, said that building trust and direct interaction with communities can empower people to make informed decisions regarding their health protection and reduce the gap between health services and remote areas.<\/p>\n
This program is being implemented while Afghanistan\u2019s health system faces a severe crisis in resources, staff shortages, and reduced public access to basic services following the Taliban\u2019s takeover of the country in 2021\u2014a situation repeatedly warned about by international organizations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
