Nearly five years have passed since the Taliban administration returned to power, yet international sanctions against several officials of this administration remain in place. Sohail Shaheen, acting head of the Taliban’s embassy in Doha, in his latest remarks described these restrictions as obstacles to economic growth, expanded diplomatic relations, and addressing the problems of the Afghan people. He urged the international community to engage more with Kabul.<\/p>\n
Shaheen emphasized that travel bans and financial restrictions on Taliban leaders are “unjust and unfair,” and according to him, these pressures have so far resolved no issues but have made understanding and dialogue more difficult. He called on influential countries to take action to end these sanctions.<\/p>\n
Currently, the names of several Taliban officials remain on the United Nations sanctions list, facing travel limitations and certain financial transaction restrictions. These sanctions were imposed following the political developments in Afghanistan under decisions taken by the UN Security Council.<\/p>\n
Some political analysts say the issue of sanctions requires reconsideration within the framework of a new strategy. Samiullah Ahmady, a political analyst, referring to the Doha Agreement, said that the agreement had discussed lifting sanctions after establishing a new system in Afghanistan, but according to him, implementing parts of this agreement has encountered challenges.<\/p>\n
Despite the expansion of political and economic relations between some regional countries and Kabul in recent years, only Russia has formally recognized the Taliban administration. The Taliban administration has consistently stated that its foreign policy is based on positive engagement, economic cooperation, and balanced relations with the world.
